Foster Notes 6/24/2026

Paloma has been in foster care with a temporary foster for approximately 1.5 weeks in a two-adult home and is reported to be housetrained, using a dog door reliably without accidents. She has been left loose in the home with access to a fenced yard for up to 5 hours without issue. Paloma is deaf and is currently learning hand signals. She knows sit, takes treats gently, and foster is working on additional cues including down and wait.Foster reports that Paloma has successfully lived with large resident dogs in another foster home, though slow introductions are recommended. On walks, she becomes highly aroused by other animals and may fixate, pull, jump, spin, and pant, though she does not bark or snarl. She also shows strong interest in small animals and will charge toward them if given the opportunity. Foster reports she is inexperienced with urban environments and may become overstimulated by cars, bicycles, joggers, and other novel stimuli, occasionally jumping toward joggers. An Easy Walk harness has been helpful for management. Paloma is described as friendly with new people and settles appropriately after greetings. Foster notes that she can become jumpy and use her mouth during play or herding behavior, and would benefit from continued training on leash manners and appropriate play behaviors.

Dog-To-Dog Evaluation 1/20/2022

Gentle dainty when first introduced to bigger dogs. Avoidant when overwhelmed. When opens up, play style is lots of mouthing of other dog. Some push pull play. Enjoys the company of another dog, okay with dogs much larger than her.B Small dogs: Okay but confused by small dogs. - LR

Foster Notes 1/20/2022

Paloma is deaf, and must be adopted in to a home with another dog. She gets so much of her reassurance and guidance from a dog friend, it really is critical for her comfort in the world. B No cats. Older, respectful, children only as she is easily overwhelmed and can be mouthy. B Behavior- no food or toy guarding from people (or dogs) with the exception of her crate or the nice hole she just dug. She will just jump in to them, no aggression. B Okay with all handling but gets overwhelmed easily. B Nervous about new people (Avoidant, lip licking) but settles in quickly. B Very mouthy, but responsive when redirected to a more appropriate behavior. B (notes per foster/staff LR)

Description

Meet Paloma, the one-of-a-kind pup who's sure to steal your heart with her stunning blue eyes. This 5-year-old, 47-pound Shepsky/Cattle Dog mix girl is full of spark, a social butterfly who adores meeting new people and soaking up all the love and attention. She also happens to be deaf, but that doesn't hold her back from enjoying everything that life has to offer!

Her foster says Paloma is a bundle of joy with a tail that never stops wagging. A quick learner, she's crate and potty trained, knows how to sit, and politely takes treats. She’s mastering leash skills and enjoys going on pack walks with her giant dog foster siblings. Always up for adventures, Paloma loves going for car rides and gets excited as soon as she sees her harness. In the home she is an independent gal who is respectful, good with houseguests, quiet, and able to relax either home alone or by your side as the perfect work from home buddy. But she's always up for a little tug of war or chasing a ball whenever you want to play!

Paloma is in search of a forever home as a solo dog or with a well-matched dog companion and no other small pets. She'll do best in a quiet neighborhood as busy places can be overwhelming. A high-energy, intelligent working breed mix, Paloma will thrive in a house with a yard or with regular exercise along with mental stimulation.

If you're looking for a special companion that will bring love and excitement to your life, Paloma is the one for you! Follow her in foster with @the_skyline_pack on Instagram, and click here to learn how to adopt and submit your adoption questionnaire.
