Handling Eval 10/14/2026
Owner surrender on 10/10/26. Adopted from OAS as a puppy approximately one year ago. Green dot on intake. Staff were able to handle dog for intake procedures, including vaccines, without issues. SHELTER HANDLING: Green volunteers and staff have been able to leash, walk, and pet dog during outings with no issues. Green volunteers note that dog can be jumpy in the kennel, but she is noted as easy to leash. Appears to be somewhat anxious, startles and stress yawns while walking. However dog is easy to handle and walks well on leash. Knows sit and has been noted to take treats with a soft mouth. Shows enjoyment with pets. No noted issues re-kenneling. Green for volunteer handling. PLAN: Dog can be made available for adoption after review of owner surrender notes.UPDATE: Dog was noted to guard food from other animals in the home. Would likely do best as an only pet.B

Other Notes 3/28/2026
Owner return after 6 months due to behavior in home. Piece of dog food on ground, Charlie grabbed resident chihuahua by neck and wouldn't drop her, had to throw a chair at her to get her to stop. Chihuahua had to get stitches and drains. Chased resident cats and chased and nipped at children in home. Asked if there was any more resource guarding, Charlie would growl at cats and chihuahua when they came close to her crate. Owner said she is sweet and hyper. AP
Handling Eval 10/9/2025
Friendly, playful, energetic puppy, will need continued appropriate socialization with new people, places and other animals, and positive reinforcement/rewards based training. Training should begin immediately before this puppy learns unwanted behaviors and becomes difficult to control. Adopter must be prepared for the time, energy, patience and commitment needed to raise and train a puppy, and be prepared for the exercise and mental enrichment needed by this breed. Breed experience or knowledge preferred.
Description
Meet Charlie, a 1-year-old, 79-pound German Shepherd and Pit Bull Terrier mix who enjoys human affection and is ready to find her next home!
- Loves Attention: Charlie enjoys pets and spending time with people. She may be a little anxious in new situations, but she’s easy to handle and warms up with gentle encouragement.
- Smart Cookie: Charlie knows “sit” and takes treats gently. She walks well on leash and is ready to keep building her skills with positive reinforcement.
- Playgroup Pal: Charlie has shown she can enjoy calm, respectful interactions with other dogs in a supervised playgroup setting.
- Ready to Learn: Like many young dogs, Charlie will benefit from continued training, enrichment, and a consistent routine to help her thrive.
Charlie is looking for an adult-only home where she can be the only pet. An adopter with dog experience, preferably with German Shepherds or similar breeds, will be best suited to help Charlie succeed.
