  Owner/Guardian Surrender

Handling Eval 10/1/2026

Background: Owner surrender on 9/30/26. Surrendered due to resource guarding food in the household.B Dog was given green dot on intake. Staff were able to handle dog for intake procedures, including vaccines, without issues. Dog was noted to be an "anxious but sweet" and "big puppy."Shelter handling: Volunteers and staff have been able to leash, walk, and pet dog during outings with no issues. Yellow for shelter handling: Dog has a bite history, but otherwise presents as a green dog (easy to leash, walk, re-kennel, and relaxed with handling). This dog has a history of food guarding in a previous home, including growling when approached while eating or food present and biting and breaking skin when a child in the home moved a bone the dog was chewing on. Food guarding is a behavior that can be seen in many dogs. Adopters should be aware that guarding behavior may continue and should be prepared to manage it appropriately. Recommended precautions include:? Allowing the dog to eat undisturbed in a quiet area.? Avoiding reaching toward the dog or the food bowl while the dog is eating.? Picking up empty bowls only after the dog has moved away.? Supervising interactions with children or other pets around food, treats, or high-value items. If guarding behavior persists or worsens, a veterinarian or qualified trainer/behavior professional can help provide guidance on behavior modification and safe management strategies.

A: Gentle, Medium Energy, Low Contact, Defers, Takes Corrections, Avoids Conflict, Playgroup Size 3-5.

P: Recommend placement with appropriately matched dogs, or placed as a solo dog with appropriate dog friends.

Handling Eval 5/3/2026

Came in as a stray, green dot on intake. ACA notes "Found by a man on the 1T bus, evidently was left behind on the bus. Has on a pink collar and a red leash. No chip found. Full intake done. Easy to handle."Friendly, playful, energetic puppy, will need continued appropriate socialization with new people, places and other animals, and positive reinforcement/rewards based training. Training should begin immediately before this puppy learns unwanted behaviors and becomes difficult to control. Dog savvy, respectful children 8+ may be okay; younger kids not recommended due to typical puppy mouthiness and sharp teeth. Adopter must be prepared for the time, energy, patience and commitment needed to raise and train a puppy, and be prepared for the exercise and mental enrichment needed by this breed. Breed experience or knowledge preferred.B
