In-Shelter Summary 10/11/2026
Superstar, loose-leash walker and intelligent, curious dog. Easily won over with treats. Adopter should be prepared for the exercise and mental stimulation required by husky breed. Palomino can jump on people and vocalize which can be frightening for children and seniors, so recommend an adult-only home.
In-Shelter Summary 8/31/2026
Initially shy and hesitant around tall men, but warms up with slow, patient handling. Food-motivated by treats like cheese and responds well to reward-based training to practice basic cues and leash manners. Best suited for an all-adult home with experienced adopters who can manage his high-energy, high-contact jumping when excited, give him space to decompress, and provide sufficient time to gain confidence. Unlikely to thrive in a home with younger kids due to his high energy and tendency to jump and bounce off people. In dog playgroups, he interacted gently and curiously, making him suitable as a solo dog or paired with compatible, easygoing canine companions. Consistently maintains a clean kennel inside during his shelter stay.
In-Shelter Summary 7/1/2026
Palomino displayed really nice leash-walking skills during field trip outing. Volunteers described him as gentle, playful and affiliative. Breed knowledge and/or experience preferred.

O: Dog was sitting at the front of the kennel leaning against the door. Stood up with wide, soft tail wags and soft face. Easy to leash. Walked ahead of handler with mostly loose leash down the hallway, high soft wagging tail. Dropped leash in the yard. Handler crouched. Dog approached handler and accepted pets around chin, then sat to lean against handler. Leaned into pets all over head, neck, chest, shoulders, back, with soft face relaxed musculature and soft high wagging tail. Bounced around handler, offering play bows and skittered around when handler responded with playful body language. Dog became vocal, relaxed open mouth growling, jumping around and then jumped and bounced off handler with front paws. Went back down to play bow and bounced around continuing to vocalize. Settled when handler stopped playing and approached handler for pets. Took treats with a soft mouth. Walked with moderate pulling back to kennel. Dog followed handler into kennel. Removed slip leash by hand while petting dog around the neck and head. Volunteers report that dog chases toys but does not pick up and appears to prefer handler-directed play.
A: Affiliative and playful young dog. Approaches readily for pets/handling. Shows enjoyment with pets. High energy. Walks well on leash. Has done well on field trips with volunteers. Volunteers report that he knows sit, down, and touch.B Treat motivated. Shows little interest in toys. Yellow for volunteer handling d/t some jumping at handler with moderate body contact. Consider for Green if recommended by volunteers. B
P: Make available for adoption. Recommend adopters continue to work on basic manners (leash skills, recall, sit) using a patient, reward-based training approach. Unknown how this dog may behave around children, however, occasional high contact jumping makes a home with young children less suitable. Potential adopters should be familiar with the characteristics of Husky breed dogs (require regular grooming, tendency to be vocal, jump / dig under fences, potential for prey drive) and be prepared to provide sufficient exercise and enrichment.

Dog-To-Dog Evaluation 6/12/2026
O: At the gate, dog was calm and non-reactive. Inside the yard, dog readily approaches the other dogs. Tail high and still, some hackles as he greets the other dogs. Walks around the yard, mostly interested in the female dogs while generally ignoring the male dogs. Some gentle play, some attempts to mount the females. Easily steered away from the females.
A: Gentle, Medium Energy, Medium Contact, Neutral-Forward Social Dynamic, no Corrections or Conflict observed, Playgroup Size 5-10.
P: Recommend placement with appropriately matched dogs, or placed as a solo dog with appropriate dog friends.

Description
Palomino – Gentle, Playful, and Affiliative
Palomino is a 3-year-old, gentle Siberian Husky mix weighing 42 pounds with an adventurous spirit and a love for movement.
- Easygoing explorer: Palomino walks with only mild leash pulling and is content entertaining himself while exploring his surroundings, enjoying all the interesting sights and smells.
- Born to run: Palomino absolutely loves running and enjoys sprinting back and forth around the yard, showing off his energetic and playful side.
- Smart and treat motivated: While somewhat picky about treats, Palomino has a clear favorite—cheese! He takes treats politely, responds to “sit” and “touch,” and enjoys interactive games of chase with his people.
- Affiliative and uncomplicated: Palomino accepts pets and gentle strokes but doesn’t actively seek attention, preferring a balance of companionship and independence. He may occasionally chase a ball for fun, though he’s not too concerned about bringing it back.
Palomino would do well with appropriately matched dogs or as a solo dog with dog friends outside the home.
