Dog-To-Dog Evaluation 10/12/2026

Updating to Gentle after attending AM Playgroups. Gentle, Medium Energy, Medium Contact, Neutral Social Dynamic, no Corrections or Conflict observed, Playgroup Size 5-10.

Handling Eval 10/10/2026

Background: Brought in stray by finder on 10/3/26. Finder noted that dog was hyper and loud (barking or whining) in the car. Given Blue dot on intake. Dog was very anxious during intake procedures: pacing, strong pulling on leash, jumpy.

O: At the front of the kennel with neutral posture. Retreated slightly with the door open. Walked out slowly into the leash loop with lowered head. Pulled heavily through the hallway and while in the yard. Urinated immediately in the yard. Dropped leash in the yard. Dog ran the length of a large yard several times, stiff body language, whining often and stopping to nose at the gates at each end. After about 5 minutes, dog stopped at the gate nearest handler. Stayed still for pets all over head, chest, shoulders, and back while whining. Ran to the opposite end of the yard and back. Did not follow tossed treats or toys. Did not stop to take treats by hand. Pulled heavily back to kennel. Entered kennel ahead of handler and was relaxed while handling around head and neck for removal of slip leash.

A: Dog is extremely anxious, unable to focus on treats, toys, or handler. Blue: dog is very anxious and pulls heavily on leash. Blue for now to give him some consistent handling. Consider for yellow if recommended by Crew volunteers.

P: Make available for adoption by appointment. Recommend adopters continue to work on basic manners (leash skills, recall, sit) using a patient, reward-based training approach. Unknown how this dog may behave around children. Disclose that dog was extremely anxious on shelter intake. Expect behavior to change as dog becomes more comfortable. Request trazadone/gabapentin for shelter-related FAS. Recommend evaluating dog for potential placement in AM playgroups.

Dog-To-Dog Evaluation 10/5/2026

S: Dog-dog evaluation with a male and female tester dog. Tester dogs selected due to their ability to politely greet and not escalate conflict.

O: Dog pulled hard to approach the gate. Calmly sniffed the testers through the gate. Inside the yard, dog was approached by the testers. Dog lip licked, some hackles, then moved away. Ran around the yard by himself, possibly exit searching. Squealed and showed teeth when a tester approached. Dog appeared anxious and focused on getting out of the yard.B

A: Learning Dog Skills, High Energy, Low Contact, Neutral Social Dynamic, Gives Corrections, Avoids Conflict, Playgroup Size 2-3.

P: Recommend placement with appropriately matched dogs, or placed as a solo dog with appropriate dog friends.
