Other Notes 10/15/2026

Summary of field trip notes: Tanner went on a field trip for an urban walk along Park Street in Alameda, including a stop at a brewery. He was initially nervous when entering the car and whined briefly while settling, but remained calm for the rest of the ride. On the return trip, he entered the car willingly and waited patiently to exit when prompted. Tanner was excited and somewhat anxious on leash, requiring a shorter leash due to his strength, but was manageable with gentle redirection. He showed strong interest in greeting unfamiliar people and remained calm when passing other dogs, including a small dog that unexpectedly exited a nearby car and two larger dogs at the brewery. He ignored birds and demonstrated knowledge of sit, while practicing down and paw. Tanner appeared treat-motivated and carried a bully stick for much of the outing, which helped him remain calm and occupied. Although energetic and occasionally mouthy, Tanner was able to settle and lie down quietly at the brewery without barking or whining. The volunteer described him as friendly, playful, and social, noting that his mouthiness and strength should be considered around small children.

animalName Tanner
Location We went on an urban walk down Park St in Alameda
Behavior In Cars Tanner was a bit nervous at first when jumping in, unsure of how to settle comfortably. But he eventually did and rode like a champion, calmly enjoying the wind in his face and waiting to hop out until I encouraged him (no lunging when the door opened). On the way home he hopped right in and sat patiently in the seat
On-Leash Behavior He was a bit anxious excited, so I had him on a short leash. He is a strong pup but not overwhelming so and was able to be gently directed.
Behavior around strangers He lovesssss people and wanted to say hi to every person we passed by
Dog-to-dog behavior We passed a small dog suddenly that jumped out of a parked car next to us and tanner was so good, didn’t even flinch just looked at the dog. We also passed a big male pitbull and shepherd at the brewery. Tanner didn’t react, just looked curiously. He seemed like he would have liked saying hi
Behavior around sm. animals We only passed some birds and he couldn’t be bothered, was just busy smiling at people passing
Commands/Tricks He knows sit! We were working on down and paw. Seems to be treat motivated. Also carried his bully stick chew the majority of the walk and while we were sitting at the brewery, which kept him calm and focused
Other Observations? Tanner is so sweet, goofy, friendly, and playful. He seems like he would love to romp with a doggy sibling and/or friend, and also like he would enjoy an active household. He is a bit mouthy so should be mindful of very small children, and also like he may not know how strong he is. But very smart and would be eager to please. He seems to love every person he meets so a social family would probably not be an issue. Despite being energetic he also happily settled when we were at the brewery, and laid down to hangout. He didn’t whine or bark once the entire trip minus the first 5 mins in the car when he was settling in. Overall such a good boy!!

Description

Tanner – Energetic, Eager to Please and Affectionate

Meet Tanner, a 1-year-old, 59-pound Pit Bull Terrier mix. This enthusiastic boy is still polishing his puppy manners, but his eagerness to connect and learn makes him a fun companion with so much potential!

  • Adventure Buddy: Tanner enjoys sniffing and running around the yard. He pulls excitedly at times, but a shorter leash and gentle redirection help keep his walks manageable.
  • Smart & Learning: He knows “sit” and “touch” and is practicing “down” and “paw.” He sometimes takes treats gently but can get bouncy and mouthy with puppy excitement.
  • Loving Lapdog: Tanner adores affection. Once settled, Tanner happily leans into pets, gives kisses, and tries to climb into your lap.
  • Outing Superstar: Tanner showed lots of interest in greeting new people, calmly passed other dogs, and ignored birds. Best of all, he settled down quietly later at a brewery without barking or whining!

Tanner would do best with appropriately matched dogs or as a solo dog with well-matched canine friends.
