Dog-To-Dog Evaluation 10/22/2026
S: Dog-dog evaluation with a female tester dog. Tester dog selected due to her ability to politely greet and not escalate conflict. On leash evaluation as dog was injured in a fight with another dog prior to intake and wounds around face and head were still healing.
O: At the gate, dog was calm and nonreactive with loose wagging tail and soft face. Walked on leash while sniffing in the yard. Looked towards or walked towards tester several times with soft face and relaxed musculature, sniffed then walked away sniffing the ground.
A: Independent. Medium Energy, Medium Contact, Neutral Social Dynamic, no Corrections or Conflict observed, Playgroup Size 2-3.
P: May re-test when dog is fully healed. Recommend placement with appropriately matched dogs, or placed as a solo dog with appropriate dog friends.

Handling Eval 10/20/2026
Kennel presentation & leashing: Upon approach dog came to the front of the kennel with loose wagging body, easy to leash. Relief walk: During relief break dog walked nicely on leash, dog walked right next to handler. When passing other dogs being walked by other volunteers, he ignored them. Engagement with handler in evaluation area: Inside yard handler dropped dogs' leash and after he urinated and defecated, he came trotting over to both handlers and leaned in for pets. Dog comes when called, food motivated. When a volunteer had another dog in the middle yard he started to walk over to the gate but was easily called away and came right back over to handlers. Handling: With all handling dog had loose body leaning in, handler did not pet to much around the face as his wounds are still healing. But when handler scratched dogs ear and around the healed areas, he would lean in. Dog is very treat motivated, he knows sit and down. Arousal/play/toy: With play dog is easily excited and chases after toys but quickly loses interest. Overall: Overall dog is engaging and seem to get attached easily. Dog is treat motivated walks nicely on leash and wants attention. Would recommend kids 10 and up.
Description
Meet Pete, a 3-year-old, 64-pound American Pit Bull Terrier mix who loves attention, treats, and spending time with his people!
- Loves His People: Pete trots over to handlers for pets and happily leans in for affection. He’s friendly, engaging, and comes when called.
- Smart Cookie: Pete knows “sit” and “down,” and his love of treats makes him a fun partner for training.
- Great Walking Buddy: Pete walks nicely on leash and has calmly passed other dogs without reacting. He’s also been easy to redirect when curious about another dog.
- Playful Side: Pete enjoys chasing toys, though he tends to lose interest quickly and would rather reconnect with his human friends.
Pete is still healing from facial wounds, so he’ll appreciate gentle handling while he recovers. He may be a good match for a home with older children. Once fully healed, he may be able to enjoy life with a well-matched canine companion, or he could be a solo dog with opportunities to make dog friends.
